Since the time SC has passed an order for playing the national anthem in movie halls across India, some nationalists have turned into aggressive souls for reigniting the lost spark among citizens. They are using harsh and rude ways to ensure it is happening! But how good is it to judge someone as nationalist or anti-nationalist on the basis of that? Isn’t it SHAMEFUL?
A similar incident happened with an elderly man from Goregaon who was punched in the cinema hall for not standing up for the national anthem tune which was played in a scene while watching Dangal. Amalraj Peter Dasan (59) and his wife knew their duty well and had stood up for the national anthem before the start of the movie, but just because he didn’t stand up for the anthem tune later on, he was beaten up brutally by a drunk man Shirish Madhukar. He even hurled the worst of abuses at Amalraj, this is PATHETIC.
The couple has been traumatized by this incident and now, they have appealed to all producers, actors and Censor Board to display an “Alert message” before playing the anthem or its instrumental tune. Amalraj recalls that he and his wife were the only ones to stand up for the anthem before the movie started, as the hall was empty.
As of now, Shirish has been booked under IPC sections 323 and 504. A police official from Goregaon Police Station stated “Shirish had consumed alcohol before he arrived for the movie, and was taken over by patriotic zeal that reflected in the movie.”
Dasan feels hurt and painful on this incident; he says
“It was the scene where the protagonist’s daughter wins the gold medal and the national anthem’s tune is being played in the background. Suddenly, a man who was obviously very drunk, started screaming at everyone. He was shouting filthiest of abuses and asking people to stand up.”
Further, he added
“I didn’t realize he was demanding that people should rise to the national anthem tune. Before I could react, he landed a punch on my cheek. My wife was horrified as I took a few seconds to recover from the blow. By this time, the movie hall’s security managed to pin him down and the cops took him away.”
Amalraj was extremely humiliated and angry on the kind of reaction he received. He was not at all aware of the plot of the movie. He states;
“I didn’t know the movie’s plot.How was I to know the national anthem would be played in the background in one of the scenes? Today it is me, tomorrow another unsuspecting movie-goer will be assaulted by an overzealous `patriot’.”
Sources from Goregaon Police station said that the investigation on this will continue. Dasan has decided to forgive Madhukar, but a non-cognizable complaint is registered.
Forcing someone to follow nationalism is not at all right and moreover using such harsh ways on senior citizens is a strict NO!
