Rahul Dravid, the Former India Captain and currently the coach of Under-19 and A teams of India, was going to get an honorary doctorate by the Bangalore University because of the wonderful contribution he has made to sports. Yes, he was supposed to be awarded with this doctorate during Bangalore University’s 52nd Annual Convocation.
The function will be held at Central College’s Jnanajyothi Auditorium on the 27th of January 2017. However, to everyone’s surprise, Dravid rejected the honorary doctorate.
Want to know the reason why he declined? Well, Rahul said that instead of simply being conferred upon by this degree, he will rather prefer EARNING IT, by doing immense research in this field. Rahul declined this a day after Vajubhai R Vala gave approval to the conferment of this honorary doctorate. 3 personalities had been recommended for this degree, but out of them Dravid was finalized.
The cricketer thanked the University but at the same time turned this down due to his own morals and values. Vice-Chancellor B Thimme Gowda says
“He has conveyed that he would try to earn a doctorate degree by accomplishing some form of academic research in the field of sport rather than receiving an honorary degree.”
The Bangalore University also shared a press release stating how the cricketer politely refused to accept this honor; have a look at it…
Dravid has been Bangalore’s favourite son; he attended St Joseph Boys High Shool and completed graduation from St Joseph’s College of Commerce. While studying Business Administration, he got selected in National team.
He has got many honors for India; he had represented the country in around 164 Test matches and scored around 13,288 runs.
Rahul truly deserved this doctorate degree, but at the same time, we also love his dignified reply that he doesn’t WANT things, but wants to EARN things.
