Since yesterday, #BoycottSnapchat is trending because Indians are very angry with Snapchat’s CEO. Anthony Pompliano, Snapchat’s former employee filed a lawsuit against the CEO, Evan Spiegel and accused him of calling India a poor country. According to Anthony, the CEO said, “This app is only for rich people. I don’t want to expand into poor countries like India and Spain.”
Just one statement was enough for people to get furious; most of them uninstalled the app and left insulting posts for Spiegel. However, the case is still in court and final decision is yet to be given; hence, we can’t blame the CEO on the basis of assumptions, right? Without knowing the full story, getting angry and uninstalling the app is very wrong.
Meanwhile, Snapchat is out with an official statement on this. Well, the company has denied the allegations made by Anthony Pompliano. The statement given by Snap’s spokesperson to Huffington Post reads,
This is ridiculous. Obviously, Snapchat is for everyone! It’s available worldwide to download for free. Those were the words of a disgruntled former employee. We are grateful for our Snapchat community in India and around the world.
Mr. Pompliano also accused Snapchat of inflating user data and giving “Misinformation” about key metrics.
Responding to this accusation, Snapchat said,
“Snap did not give investors misstated user metrics back in 2015; nor did Snap employees commit any of the panoply of alleged bad acts that litter Pompliano’s complaint. Snap will demonstrate as much at the appropriate time in the appropriate forum.”
We need to wait for the verdict before taking sides. People got angry after reading Anthony’s claim, but now that Snapchat has denied these allegations, shouldn’t we keep our minds cool and try to know what exactly happened?
It is wrong on our part to believe just one side of the story and take actions, isn’t it? There are good chances that Snapchat’s spokesperson is speaking the truth.
As of now, nothing can be said; let’s wait patiently.
