On a regular basis, we stumble upon many incidents of con and harassment which leave us with a distressing question, “Does humanity actually exist?”
Once again, a shameful incident has occurred in which a guy who posed as a top executive in social media giant Facebook sexually harassed a woman after offering her a lucrative job at Facebook and issuing fake call letters. The conman invited the woman to a resort situated in Ramanagara for giving an interview and she was allegedly molested there.
The man has been taken into custody by the Yeshwanthpur police and it is said that he has cheated many women with the same modus operandi. Till now, two other ladies have also registered complaints against the conman who has been identified as Dineshraj Gowda (32) alias Ananth Hebbar. Ananth is from Rajarajeshwari Nagar and he claims to work in Facebook office in Domlur as the head of HR and operations. Surprisingly, Facebook has no office in Bengaluru.
TOI was told by the woman from Mathikere that she wanted to restart her career after having her child so she posted her resume on a job portal. In her words,
“In Feb, I got a call from one Jayanthi Suresh of Talent Source India Ltd, stating that I was selected for an HR post in Facebook’s office in Bengaluru.”
The 31 yrs old lady also said that she was told by the woman on the phone that she could be called for a personal interview soon. She further added,
“The person asked me to look trendy with a fancy haircut, short skirts and high heels before appearing for the interview. She said Facebook is a multicultural workspace and one needs to look sexy.”
As per State Cyber Crime CID, the accused may have used a voice-morphing app in order to present himself as Jayanthi Suresh on the phone.
The lady got her appointment order on a Facebook letterhead on February 10 and she got the job of HR operations manager. The order also contained the policies of the firm and the salary breakup. She told,
“Soon after I received the offer letter by email, I got a call stating that I had an interview at a resort in Ramanagara with HR head Dinesh Gowda.”
However, she got the shock of her lifetime when Dineshraj, who was dressed in blue, took her into a room to check her ability of making the room ready for the executives coming from abroad. She said,
“He tried to misbehave with me inside, and I slapped him before storming out of the room.”
However, she was in no mood to let him go unpunished, so she called him and made him believe that she wanted the job. With the help of some villagers, she kept a track on the movements of Dineshraj and got him caught red-handed by the Ramanagara police when he came to the resort with his next victim. An officer from Yeshwanthpur police station told,
“On Tuesday, we arrested Dineshraj Gowda who posed as a Facebook executive and cheated women after promising them jobs in Bengaluru. Some forged documents were seized from him. He was remanded to judicial custody and sent to prison.”
Two other ladies have also come to register a complaint against Dineshraj and the police strongly feels that the list of victims will increase in the coming days.
