India might have a good rank in many other aspects, but in terms of healthcare, it surely lags behind. Recently, a survey “Global Burden of Disease” was conducted and in that, India has shown a very poor performance.

Even countries like Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal have gone ahead of it. The results were decided after analyzing the countries for 25 years i.e. 1990-2005; 195 countries had participated in this survey and unfortunately, India stands at no.154 with 44.8 points.

This study was carried out by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; however, it is worth noting that India’s score has improved by 14.1 points. In 1990, it was 30.7 but in 2015, it was 44.8.

The neighboring countries of India have scored well in comparison; China got 74 points, Sri Lanka got 72.8 points, Nepal got 50.8 points, Bhutan got 52.7 points and Bangladesh got 51.7 points.

However, India has surpassed Pakistan in this list; the latter has scored just 43 points.

Team member Christopher Murray said that even though there were many improvements in 25 years, there has been a great inequality between the worst and best performing countries.

Basically, the survey studied the death rate from diseases like whooping cough, diphtheria, tuberculosis, measles, tetanus, heart disease, neonatal disorders and cancer.

The study says that India has poorly performed in tackling cases of rheumatic heart diseases, chronic kidney diseases, diabetes and tuberculosis.

We hope India’s rank improves in the next survey.
