Pakistan’s political condition has never been very stable and once again, a decision by the Pakistani Supreme Court has upset the political stability. In a unanimous verdict, the 5-judge bench disqualified Nawaz Sharif from the post of the Prime Minister after it found involvement of Nawaz and his children in the Panama Papers Leak case. Nawaz and his children have been accused of purchasing costly property in London via offshore companies.

The Supreme Court has also ordered the Election Commission to de-notify Nawaz and as per reports, Ishaq Dar, the finance minister of Pakistan, has also been disqualified. The Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) now needs to choose an interim leader who can run the government till 2018 elections. It is said that the party will be issuing a statement in the evening today.
The opposition leader Imran Khan was demanding the removal of Nawaz since the scandal came in news and it is a big win for him and his party. The SC has also ordered that the cases should be registered within six weeks and the decision in these cases should come within six months only. However, the local media is saying that criminal proceedings will also start against Nawaz and his children. This decision has stopped Nawaz Sharif from becoming the first Prime Minister to complete a full five-year term.
Twitter also reacted over the matter and here are few selected tweets:
