Demonetization has invited mixed reactions; some support it while some are totally against this note ban. However, there is one state which completely supports this decision of PM Modi and is going to go cashless from the 31st of December. We are talking about none other than our party destination “Goa”. You got that right; it is all set to become India’s first cashless state.
Manohar Parrikar, backed demonetization and said that Goa is on it’s way to fulfill PM’s dream of a cashless society. From 31st of December, people would be able to buy vegetables, meat, fish and other perishables just with a press of button.
This decision would allow people to get rid of purses and pickpocketers. R K Srivastava, the Chief Secretary stated that the money on the purchases would be debited to the bank accounts of the person. This move was decided yesterday when Manohar Parrikar met officials of private and nationalized banks.
Steps to do the transaction!
For instance, if you want to purchase something from your vegetable seller, you need to dial *99# from your phone, followed by the mobile number of the vegetable seller (Need not be a smartphone). As soon as you enter the mobile number, enter the security code and press “OK”, money will be debited from your account and credited to the vegetable seller’s account. However, there are chances that the mobile number of the vendors can be misused; to avoid this, the government can use either Aadhar cards or another unique identity number for processing transfers.
This is definitely a great step towards digitization; it is being introduced for transferring money to vendors who aren’t having swipe machines. However, swiping of credit cards and ATM cards will continue. This awareness drive would start from Monday at Panaji and Mapusa.
Some things to keep in mind!
Don’t think that cash transactions are banned; they will continue as usual. This drive is just for encouraging a cashless state and as of now, there’s no surety on how successful it would be. There is no minimum limit set for cashless transfer and it would be free; no fee or charges of any sort would be applicable.
This is the first step towards digitization and we loved this move. More details on the same are awaited. What are your thoughts on this? Do share your views in our comments section below.
