Life can change any moment and we saw it in case of Tamil Nadu bowler T Natarajan! His life took a U-Turn as he was sold to Kings XI Punjab for Rs 3 crores. He belongs to a very poor family, but God had something better in store for him. It seems just 1 example is not enough; we bring to you the story of another cricketer who signed a Rs 2.6 crores deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad. Yes, we are talking about 22 yr old Mohammed Siraj, the son of a rickshawallah, from Banjara hills. His life was tough and no doubt, he had to struggle a lot to establish a name in this field
His background!
Their family condition is very bad; Mohammad Ghouse, his father is a diabetic patient, but still toils hard and drives an auto to earn a livelihood (Since 25 years). On the other hand, Shabana Begum, his mom, works in houses so that some extra money comes in. Siraj’s dad ensures that he gets the necessary encouragement to follow his passion. In spite of low income, his dad used to get him the best bowling spikes although they are very costly. Siraj’s elder brother Ismail, was very sincere in studies and was pursuing engineering, while Siraj was least bothered about studies; so, comparison and bashing up was very common at home. Although Siraj had complete support from his dad, he used to always get those taunts from his mom. Yes, it was a strict NO from her side to play cricket on the streets. There came a time when Siraj’s mom asked him to vow that he will never play cricket again, but this too left him unaffected; he kept playing with equal enthusiasm and passion.
Income from his first cricket match!
Siraj recalls his 1st match and also the income he earned from it. Basically, it was a club match and the his maternal uncle was the captain of their team. Siraj played really well; he gave 20 runs and took 9 wickets in those 25 overs. His uncle was so impressed that he gave him Rs 500 as a reward. Siraj will never forget this as it was an ACHIEVEMENT for him.
His professional career!
Siraj is a self taught person and started off very slow. Right from tennis ball cricket days, he learnt many new things. Firstly, he learnt to bowl in blockholes and gradually he learnt other techniques. To start with, Siraj played in the Hyderabad U-22 team and later, he played Mushtaq Ali, Vijay Hazare and Ranji Trophy matches. Then, he entered the India A team which was once again a great experience for him. Siraj believes in taking small but steady steps and this thinking has helped him stay ahead. Now, he has entered the IPL and soon he will join the senior national team. As of now, Siraj hopes to learn a lot from VVS Laxman and David Warner (Captain).
After signing this Rs 2.6 crores deal, the first thing that Siraj wishes to do is buy a flat for his family in a posh locality. He realizes the amount of efforts put in by his father; now he wants him to give up on auto driving and enjoy a relaxed life.
What a life changing episode, isn’t it? It is rightly said “Sabar ka phal meetha hota hai”. He kept working hard and patiently waited for the results; finally the day is here.
All the best Siraj! We hope you do the best….
